21/05/05 Jack Johnson Concert - KickAss

07/06/05 Kaz turns 18. About time bro.
For the whole (nobody) who reads these, I'm sorry that I havent posted in a while. I have a lovely little deal with my home computer that whenever I try to do anything besides MSN or Hotmail, it crashes, which is extra fun because even though I have ADSL, it doesn't connect all the time... only very rarely. Soon, however, we'll be setting up a lovely little wireless network, where we (hope) will get constant broadband connection, and fast network transfers. Not to mention the joy of kicking my brother's ass in Battlefield 1942. I hope :)
Anyway, I got more exam results, so here they are:
English A1 HL - 6 (3 points off a seven...)
History HL - 5/6 (2 essays, 5 for one, 6 for the other)
and the rest stand as usual. I still havent got my portuguese grade, but it can't be too bad, even though I rushed it. On wednesday I have to present my Practical Play Analysis (like the exam for Theatre Arts, because we don't have an exam...) and I havent even started it... so if anyone has planned an entire production of Cloud 9, by Caryl Churchill, please feel free to send it to me. Shit... also, I should be working on my Environmental Systems bloody write up or my exam grade will drop to a 5... fuck.
Anyhoo, I did have a fantastic 4 day weekend (here in Portugal, we have more 'feriados' - days off - than they have sheep in New Zealand) starting with my cousin leaving early Thursday morning. Now, that's not what made it a good day (actually, thursday was pretty crap) but then I went surfing (but I suck) and that was allright. Caught some nice waves... and it appears that I've picked up a tan. yay.
Ok, although Thursday sucked the sweat off a dead horse's balls (graphic, huh?) friday was June 11... and you know what that means... that's right, SUPER BOCK SUPER ROCK!! It's this wikkid music festival that happens every year, sponsored by Super Bock, good beer, and had a pretty amazing listing this year. I went on the last day, so I missed such wonders as Korn, Muse (well, I like Muse), Avril Lavigne, N.E.R.D, and Nelly Furtado. However, I got treated to the amazing music of Pixies (oh my god) Massive Attack (wow...) and Fat Boy Slim (Holy Jesus, that guy can spin)... and it was only a 40 minute walk from the metro station. Before I left to lisbon, however, I had a nice lunch with Faiza, Pippa and Marcelo, then we went to the beach. yay. so I was sandy for the show :D
What a musically fantastic night... I used the Moshpits to make my way to the front, and I was in the second row for most of the Pixies... 'Where Is My Mind?' was amazing... then we (Me, Kaz, Sean and Jamie) walked away coz we weren't interested in the portuguese bands they had playing, and got some over priced food which we had to wait like half an hour for... then we hung out on the grass, smoked some doobies and planned a would-be successful robbery of the drinks stall... we spent quite a while talking about it, how we would lift Jamie over the fence so he could grab some water and we'd make a dash for it. Right before we got the the moment of glory, some other guy came by, thrust his arm though a gap in the fence and grabbed a bottle... out of nowhere, this huge bald guy comes up and grabs this other dude, pinning his arm behind his back and starts dragging him away. We were pretty glad that we hadn't taken the water at that point, i shit you not. So, still thirsty we went to the grass and chilled. However, soon after, while reaching for my wallet, I realised it wasnae there... ain't that a bitch? So Sean and I go look for it where it may have fallen out... but of course, we find nothing... except for a couple water bottles on the floor, so we did manage to quench our thirst, successfully ignoring the tunes of Lenny Kravitz :)
Then, Massive Attack... I got lost, seperated from my dudes, but it was cool... by this point, I was rather stoned, and the lights were so pretty... then I got my act together and called Kaz and we met up again. They were on the boardwalk at this point, and Sean seemed to have found the answer to the problem of the cold (it does get pretty cold): burning embers. Under the boardwalk, there was this little patch of burning embers, and they were pretty warm, so Sean and I settled ourselves over then and let the warmth wash over. However, every once in a while, the smoke kicked up and we'd have too get up to breathe. Everyone around us would stare as they got smacked in the face by a wall of smoke, as if we started the fire (really, we didn't... although we tried to start a little bonfire back on the grass, and it was going pretty well untill Sean decided to stamp it out.. bugger) anyway, at some point, flames erupted, and we decided that it would be best, as the boards upon which we stood started to catch fire, to report this little problemo to a nearby policeman... well, we found one, but he just sorta walked off... so we doused the flames with water (and a little beer)... no problem.
Then, while waiting for the flames to return (we regretted killing the warmth) we hear... a sound. something's happening... oh my god, it's FATBOY SLIM!! first tune: we hear (and fucking loud) the bass line for Seven Nations Army, by the White Stripes... and it's fucking amazing. The tune stays throughout, but the lyrics are replaced by a sorta punk-rock-rap thing that I recognised from Tony Hawks games... but it was terrific. I was dancing like a crazy man... me and Jamie both were. Sean was a little more reserved :) Anyway, after quite a bit of time chilling with Fatboy (who was pretty funny, writing things on records and waving them at the camera... hehe, funny stuff) we decided that we should do my dad the favour of letting him pick us up. That was at like 3.30am... but true to his form, he showed up, managed to find the place and we hopped on in. We were sad to ne missing the rest of Fatboy, but I think we saw the best bits anyway... I slept most of the way home, and when we arrived, the sun was rising, and (although I can't remember it, my dad told me) I said some truly profound stuff... looking up at the rising sun, I utter, "lights up for the next gig".... I think it's pretty neat. I can't remember it at all, but I think it's quite deep. My dad thought it was funny. I speak all kinds of shit when i'm 90% unconscious.
I had rehearsal the next day, which I didnt bother to get up for... but i got a pphone call, so i had to go. I was an hour and a half late (i really couldnt care less) and we didn't even do very much... so I went home where I planned to sleep, getting ready for Kaz's birthday party. Of course, I spent the afternoon watching Friends, The Office and other such things... damn DVDs, stopping my sleep...
Then, in keeping with the anticlimax tradition of sunday, it was an anticlimax. I stayed in, pretending to work (i did actually try) and watched even more Friends and The Office... but hey, it's fkin funny.
Well, I think I've written enough (for now)
if anyone ever reads this, feel free to comment... I'll try get more interesting and less long-winded... but it was just a long weekend :)
ciao,
G
