Well, I'm back from Holland. Since it was a personal trip, and I have certain recurring undesirables visiting my site, i'll be refraining from too many personal details. (undesirable because they simple piss me off)
but before that, allow me to congratulate Blogger.com for updating their posting system... now, I no longer have to type the HTML to format my words, which means I'll be expressing emotions a lot more frequently. I might even use colours... tho against a black background it's hard to read anything but red or white (o, look what everything's written in!)
So, Holland. First off, it's a beautiful country, and even when it's quite warm you get a refreshing shower to cool off... wierd but fun. Special Kudos to Thomas for releiving what used to be hours of boredom by bringing his laptop, which lent itself to many a hour of DVD watching. As usual, I bought a few, them being so cheap, and the new DVDs in my library, with their respective reviews:
Vanilla Sky - Now, the first time I saw this movie, I was with a girlfriend (of mine) and it was a crowded cinema, so naturally i couldn't enjoy the movie... but once it got to the end (which I won't spoil) I thought it was terrific. I mean, that movie is so well shot, such beautiful cinema... and it really takes you for quite a ride.
Enemy At The Gates - I didn't get this because I thought it'd be fantastic cinema... I'd seen half of it before, and I thought it was pretty cool... and the second half lived up to that. I think Jude Law is an amazing actor, and we'll be seeing lots more of him (also check out Gattaca and The Talented Mr Ripley, he's amazing in those)
Donny Darko - wow... what an amazing movie. I'd heard about it, I'd been told that I had to see it... so I thought I'd buy it. What a good move that was... I saw it for the first time on saturday night and I'm still trying to figure it out... Jake Gyllenhaal is a pretty good actor... the whole cast in that freaky movie is great, and the style of lighting and filming is just spectacular. And it has the scariest rabbit mask i've ever seen... and a great song, Mad World by Gary Jules.
Then at the airport, we bought another:
Lost In Translation - Another fantastic movie... I've only seen half (hey, the plane had to land) but it was a terrific half. Bill Murray is great in it, doesn't try to hard on the comedy and nails it completely. Scarlet Johansson is fantastic, too, and fantastically beautiful. The movie is fun because a) you get to make fun of japanese wierdos (not that all japanese are wierdos, it's just the wierdos that we make fun of... because they're wierdos) and b) spotting all the cameos by american actors you've seen somewhere but you can't quite place (well, I placed them all, but I'm fantastic)
Thomas also bought 7 Years in Tibet... but I'm not going to review it because I didn't see it recently and I can't be friggin bothered... so on with my life:
Yesterday (and today) I was trying to work on my extended essay, and I got a total of SHIT done... so I called my father and told him I needed to go to Lisbon the the British Council Library, and so off I went (now, this was just yesterday, not today) and, thankfully, brightening my day, met up with Bia and off we set to find the British Council... well, many (many) hills later, there we were, and after a brief cavity search, we were allowed in. Of course, contrary to what I had heard, there were NO books on Portuguese History... and even the books on WWII didn't have a single mention of Portugal... and they call themselves scholars, pah!
So Bia and I, very dissapointed (she was on the verge of tears) went to get a bite to eat (me) and a drink (both of us) at Casa dos Sandes (or that other sandwich place, I can never tell the difference) and talked... 'twas nice, except for when that pigeon tried to gore my eyes out with it's talon (that's tight, talon)... I managed to make myself look cool (that's right, cool) by doing some magic. Hey, at least she laughed. Then, without anything better to do (is there anything better?) we went to her house and spent hours making hot steamy passionate love. No, actually, we just talked about how i'm never getting any and the hole in her bed. She's got a nice room, and a nice house (but no chocolate, aiai) and a nice sister and a nice mother. It's all good. How I managed to refrain from leaning forward and stealing a kiss while she closed her eyes to laugh (happened often) I'll never know... must be getting my mojo killed by all the smoking. but that's a good thing, she'd've kicked me out. And then I'd have something to write about...
My mum came back from holland last night, and since it's personal, I won't be sharing details, but we had a late dinner (11pm late enough?) and Kaz showed up which was very nice. Then he and I went out to drink some herbal tea (metaphor) and, while there, I wrote the chorus to his next nÂș1 hit, it's called Herbal Tea
Come on out, it's just us three You an' Me an' da Herbal Tea Laughin an' a Chattin' an' a feelin' Irie Forgetting all da tings dat make us angry
You see, it's for his reggae band, that's why it's all misspelled. A note: it's not upbeat reggae, this is supposed to be slow, mellow stuff. Heck, just buy the CD when it comes out.
Today again I tried to start working... failed. I can't help it. I suck, yes, I know. But I did play Age of Mythology against my brother... and lost... he's had the game 5 days and he beats my ass at it. Fucking hell... Oh well, I guess this just means I'm too cool (that's right, cool) for computer games...
Well, that's enough from me for now... on sunday I go to america, so don't expect to get updates very often (because I'm lazy)
k, ciao,
G
