:: prepare to evacuate extended essay in ten... nine... eight...
10:44 pm
Hey there.
Been a while ain't it? Just when i think nobody visits my site, I skip 2 weeks of writing and the comment box has some pleas for more... and then some random stuff about the copywrite of the name "anon."... but check the name, this is Random Ramblings, so all random stuff is not only welcome, it is encouraged.
The big question, why haven't i written in ages? Well, I've been very busy, finally getting some (i only said some) work done on my Extended Essay (which is now on fight club, hence the echo of the previous fight club nod in the title) and my Historical Investigation... I might just survive... also, I was away, though that was ages ago... but I never wrote about it.
Italy was very nice (as one would imagine) and very hot (as one would imagine) so we spent quite some time in the pool (as one would imagine) and we saw some lamas (as one wouldn't quite imagine). I did get quite a bit of work done, on my EE, though it was only notes, so I'm kinda still on square one... it's a big square. Travelling was, every time we tried it, a disaster, but an experience, and fun, in the hindsight sorta way. But as my philosophy is 'one day we will look back on this and it will all seem funny' (copywrite of my mug) I didn't let it get to me... but here's a short summary of the craziness we encountered.
-fight to italy: we were seated apart from each other, and i had a chair in my face and a person behind me who wouldn't let me recouperate the space
-arrival in italy: we were approached by a conman of sorts who tried to tell us that there was no train to Orte (where we needed to go) from the airport, and told us that he'd drive us to a nearby station. Thanks.... but no thanks. Bit of a scary chap, especially considering that an hour later we were on the train that didn't exist.
-train to orte: unaware of the choice of fast and slow train, the trip took about two hours, which made us an hour and a half late for our connection
-taxi to todi: calling the taxi was a nightmare... for me. What is the world coming to when "um... taxi...?....um....orte...um....train...?...trenni.....um... do you speak any english?" won't get you a taxi? thanks to a lady who spoke english (one of the few italians we met with that ability) we did get a cab... which looked like some guys personal car (as in it was a blue Golf) but we decided to trust the odd driver this time around, and made it to todi. Cost? €75
-train to rome: after our days in todi, we tried to take a train from there to rome. Turns out there was none... even though we'd bought tickets... from that station.
-bus to right train station: uneventful... and free. provided by the train company because some of the tracks were shut down... we figured it was the reason there was no train.
-train to trieste: not trusting the station signs (or lack thereof) we were perched on the edges of our seats in anticipation of actually making our connection... success
-train to rome: we were told we could buy tickets aboard... but nobody asked, so I guess it was free. Surprisingly heavy traffic on a train, we were caught behind the drinks vendor for a while, before we could find 3 seats in the same carriage...
-walk to hostel: nice... relaxing
walk around rome: very nice... started at about 4, ended at about midnight. We saw so much... walked so far... felt oh so cultural. I won't go into details, because those are copywrite (you've got me into a copywriting mood) of Ruben, Zack and Myself.
-train to airport: even though we had to get up early, we were out on time, and managed to catch a good early train and got to the airport with plenty of time to spare. Only minor thingy is that we couldn't find seats... so we sat on some of the luggage racks (not the overhead ones... they had compartments)... only major thingy is that someone farted.
-plane to portugal: here's the fun part, but I'll keep it short. Right when we were checking in, we noticed (how can you miss it?) that Zack's passport was missing... though let me stress that it wasn't his fault. Cutting the story by about an hour and a half, and many phone calls to the british embassy and zack's parents, and visiting the police, and trying to force our way aboard using our lovely charm, the passport was found by the police. Thank goodness our flight was delayed, eh? We like to think we're the reason... anyway, the passport had been handed in by one of the pre-flight shops. My hypothesis is that it fell out of the bag it was in while Ruben and Zack were dancing to some reggae in a music shop... typical. We really let Zack have it for this little episode... really one of those hindsight type of humours. At the time, it was more like stress... though I felt calm. I mean, I see plenty of Zack, I could use some time without.
So, that's my trip in a nutshell. I thought I'd condense it, mainly because I'm lazy, and secondly because if I spent ages writing, I'd feel like I was wasting my time when i should be working. But I'm in denial now, so it's all good.
i hope you enjoyed my newest post, I hope I'm still fresh after my 2 week hiatus and I hope the messages in the chatterbox continue in earnest.
hey Geert. Interested in a Gmail account? I have invitations. mm... say something if you're want it, k? even if it is 'evil' and doesn't actually appear on the google site =P Marg
thanks for offering, I'd love an evil, hardly advertised gmail account. I need a gigabyte of space... due to this site, I get hundreds of megabites of emails per day. Fan mail... mostly from myself. thnks G
