More than just a pet, he provided my family with a feeling of calm... he was not only a friend, but a philosopher as well. He knew how to live life, one step at a time, always calm.
In our lives, we are presented with obstacles and challenges, and often we don't know how to face them. In times of trouble, I would spend time with the Dude, watching him as he went about his daily business, crawling around the garden, his own private Eden, and he always reminded me of how trivial it all is.
A while ago, he developed a small cut which got infected. The details are gruesome, but he was destined to a slow and painful death. To spare him the suffering, he was taken to the vet and euthanised.
He will always live in our memories, tramping slowly around with an odd little grin on his face. Where he is now, it is always summer and he has all the Eden he could ever want.
